Advantages of a Brett Martin Roof Lantern:
Measuring & Installation Guide
Please note the sizes you purchase from our website is based on the external upstand dimensions. If you purchase a 1000mm by 2000mm from our website then your external upstand dimension would be 1000mm by 2000mm. We have +20mm tolerance all around built into our sizes so if your external dimensions were 1020mm by 2020mm this would still fit. The width of your upstand should be minimum 85mm wide and 150mm high.
Brett Martin Roof Lantern rooflights are intended for installation onto a fully weathered and insulated builders upstand on flat and low pitch roofs. The surface of flat roofs normally require some degree of pitch to ensure adequate water runoff. For aesthetic reasons we recommend that the upstand is built with 0° pitch i.e. not parallel with the pitched roof surface. The rooflight can accommodate being installed on an upstand with a pitch of up to 5° but please note that this will likely result in a ‘lopsided’ appearance.
Sizes & ConfigurationÂ
Brett Martin Roof Lanterns can be purchased in 4 pane or 6 pane configurations:
Glass Specification:
Available with clear self-clean or blue solar-control self-clean glass as standard. Other glazing options are available on request. If non-standard glass is used, glazing performance may differ from the table shown.
Thermal Performance
The thermal transmittance of rooflights is evaluated in the horizontal plane to ensure compliance with Part L of building regulations. Since there is no specific method outlined for assessing the thermal performance of lantern rooflights, the approach defined in NARM NTD2 is considered the most suitable. All Brett Martin Roof Lantern variants offer thermal transmittance values that exceed the Part L limit of 2.2 W/m²K. The thermal transmittance values (measured horizontally) are provided below. For Ud values calculated in the vertical plane, please contact Brett Martin Daylight Systems.
Acoustic Performance
Brett Martin Roof Lantern units provide a direct airborne sound insulation rating of 35dB (Rw).
Wind and Snow Loads
Brett Martin Roof Lantern has been rigorously tested to ensure that, when installed correctly in line with our guidelines, it will withstand wind loads as specified in BS EN 1991-1-4: 2005 and imposed loads according to BS EN 1873: 2005.
Thermal Fractures
Brett Martin Roof Lanterns are constructed with double glazing, which includes a laminated safety glass inner pane. This is crucial for protecting those beneath the rooflight from the potential risk of falling glass due to accidental breakage. In certain cases, annealed laminated safety glass may experience thermal stress fractures if uneven heat accumulates directly beneath the glass. Any installation of blinds or modifications made to the space below the rooflight should be considered with this risk in mind. While the potential for thermal stress fractures cannot be entirely eliminated when using blinds, the risk can be minimized by selecting light-colored blinds and positioning them as far from the glass as possible. For further guidance, please reach out to our technical department.
